Sony Canceled the PAX Event With Last Of Us Part 2 Due to Coronavirus Concerns

Sony was supposed to have a gaming event next week at PAX East where the company was supposed to show the demo gameplay of PlayStation Exclusive, The Last of Us part 2. But it looks like we will need to wait much longer than we expected to see the demo. Maybe there won’t be any demo at all.

Due to the fear of Coronavirus, the Japanese game company has canceled its appearance at PAX East. Sony says that they do not want to risk the health of their officials as the situation with Coronavirus is changing every day.

This is what Sony wrote on one of their PlayStation forums.

“Today, Sony Interactive Entertainment made the decision to cancel its participation at PAX East in Boston this year due to increasing concerns related to COVID-19.

We felt that this was the safest option as the situation is changing daily. We are disappointed to cancel our participation in this event, but the health and safety of our global workforce is our highest concern.”

We really appreciate that Sony is thinking about its employees and this is what every company should focus on right now. However, there is something else we think about this all.

We all know very well that Coronavirus is a serious health concern for the whole world, many business conferences/meetings, e-sports events, corporate events, and many other important events are being canceled due to Coronavirus concerns.

Our Thoughts On Sony PAX event Cancelation

We think it is fine to cancel these events, but companies now finally have to up with some alternatives. It cannot be like this that the events will be canceled and fans will be waiting for a product launch or demos for months.

Recently MWC was canceled which brought a huge disappointment among the mobile tech industry. Phones that were supposed to be unveiled or launched at MWC are nowhere in the news.

We think every individual company can showcase its product on their youtube channels, news, etc. We know it is not a good idea to attend an event where thousands of people will have close contact with the employees as it increases the risk of virus spread. But, companies can surely do a press conference or even a live telecast on youtube unveiling their product.

This is the era of the internet and we cannot sit helplessly not being able to showcase our current or future products. If we use the power of the internet correctly, no one needs to attend any event and get all the info sitting safely at home.

We think Sony should really come up with a youtube live stream showcasing the gameplay of The Last of Us II.

We do not mean to say that we do not care about the virus and the people suffering from it, nor we mean to say that we want to enjoy the games no matter what happens in the world. We very much sympathize with the patients and we mourn over the huge number of deaths this virus brought.

We all know that people are still living their lives, and of course, these events and worldly things like video games, smartphones are the least important things when you have a global health issue in front of you.

However, people are still living their lives and buying what they want to buy, it is just a suggestion for all those companies that planned to launch or showcase their electronic products. They can at least do this on the internet so that there will be some positivity in the world instead of panic.
